58 Qualification for membership and transitional provision

(1)

Subject to subsection (3), a person is not qualified to be admitted to membership of a co‑operative unless —

(a)

there are reasonable grounds for believing that the person will be an active member of the co‑operative; and

(b)

the person is otherwise eligible under the rules of the co‑operative.

(2)

The rules of a co‑operative must contain provisions that —

(a)

impose a duty on all persons who become members to be active members; and

(b)

explain the consequences of failing to be or ceasing to be an active member.

(3)

A person who was a member of a co‑operative immediately before that co‑operative became a transferred co‑operative is qualified to be admitted to membership of the co‑operative despite the absence of reasonable grounds for believing that the person will be an active member of the co‑operative.
