Prevention and education function
45A Prevention and education function
It is a function of the Public Sector Commissioner (the prevention and education function) to help to prevent misconduct.
Without limiting the ways the Public Sector Commissioner may perform the prevention and education function, the Public Sector Commissioner performs that function by doing the following —
analysing the information the Public Sector Commissioner gathers in performing functions under this Act and any other Act, including the information gathered in support of inquiries conducted under Division 2;
analysing systems used within public authorities to prevent misconduct;
providing information to, consulting with, and making recommendations to, public authorities;
providing information relevant to the prevention and education function to the general community;
ensuring that, in performing functions under this Act and any other Act, the Public Sector Commissioner has regard to the prevention and education function;
generally increasing the capacity of public authorities to prevent and combat misconduct by providing advice and training to those authorities and, if asked, to other entities;
reporting on ways to prevent and combat misconduct.
In performing the prevention and education function, the Public Sector Commissioner may consult, cooperate, and exchange information, with the Commission.
In performing the prevention and education function, the Public Sector Commissioner is to be supported by the Commission, other independent agencies and appropriate authorities.
