Major Events Act 2023

A road that is subject to a road closure does not cease to be —

a public place; or

a road for the purposes of the Road Traffic Act 1974 or any other written law.

Subsection (1) is subject to any section 14 regulations that suspend or modify the application of a written law in relation to a major event.

During the period in which a road closure has effect, a person attending or participating in a major event is not, by reason only of being on or proceeding over a road that is the subject of a road closure, guilty of any offence against the provisions of any other written law regulating the movement of traffic or pedestrians or relating to the obstruction of a street if the person —

is acting in compliance with the road closure; and

is not obstructing the free passage of any emergency vehicle.

Subsection (3) does not authorise a contravention of any direction given by a police officer under the Public Order in Streets Act 1984 section 9A.
