Post-sentence events such as cooperation with police and reconciliation with victims are inadmissible on sentence appeal because they are new events, not evidence disclosing the true significance of facts existing at the time of sentence. A sentencing judge is not bound by the prosecution's submission as to appropriate sentence. Where an offender has no prior convictions and the principal co-offender's influence has been removed, the non-parole period should reflect the resulting improved prospects of rehabilitation.
