A serious post-sentence deterioration of a pre-existing medical condition (here, hypertension becoming uncontrolled in prison with risk of stroke, heart attack or sudden death) can justify the reception of new evidence on appeal and a reduction in the non-parole period, even where the head sentence is not disturbed. The new evidence must throw a different light on circumstances existing at the time of sentence.
