General deterrence remains a central consideration in sentencing for culpable driving causing death, even where the specific conduct is so dangerous that ordinary citizens might be thought unlikely to engage in it. The reasoning that general deterrence is unnecessary because the conduct is too extreme for ordinary people to contemplate is untenable. Where two deaths result from culpable driving and the victims were in different vehicles, a degree of cumulation of sentences may be appropriate to reflect the different duties owed to each victim.
