An unsuspended sentence of imprisonment may be inevitable for a fifth offence of driving under suspension combined with a fourth drink-driving offence and reckless driving, notwithstanding compelling personal mitigating circumstances including a domestic emergency precipitating the driving. Early guilty plea, short duration of driving, and unusual circumstances are insufficient to warrant suspension where the offending involves reckless driving with children in the car while heavily intoxicated and the offender has an extensive record of non-compliance with traffic laws.
