Where juvenile co-offenders are dealt with leniently, a sentencing judge should at least consider the sentences imposed on the co-offenders when sentencing an adult, even if only to explain why those sentences provide little or no guidance. However, the sentencing regimes under the Juvenile Justice Act and the Penalties and Sentences Act are so different that ordinarily no useful comparison can be made. The case also confirms that involvement as a getaway driver in a knife robbery on business premises at night usually warrants a custodial sentence.
