Evidence of uncharged fraudulent insurance claims using the same false names, addresses and methods as charged forgery offences is admissible as similar fact evidence where it manifests a plan, scheme or system that both proves guilty mind and identifies the accused as the perpetrator. A sentence of four years imprisonment with a two-year non-parole period is within range for a sustained course of forging and uttering Commonwealth government documents, particularly where general deterrence is important and there are no mitigating circumstances.
