A material decrease in risk may be sufficient to establish both breach of duty and causation where the risk has eventuated, particularly where the harm results from unpredictable animal behaviour. Future effects of an injury must be assessed by reference to degrees of possibility, not on the balance of probabilities, and a proportionate reduction must be made for the possibility of improvement. Payments by a workers compensation insurer are admissible as admissions by conduct but carry little probative weight where made pursuant to statutory obligation triggered by medical certification.
