A sentence of three years and six months imprisonment with parole eligibility after 12 months is within the range of a sound sentencing discretion for grievous bodily harm whilst armed causing serious permanent eye injury, where the offender has prior convictions for violence against women. An extension of time to appeal will be refused where the appeal has no reasonable prospects of success, even where the delay is relatively brief.
