For multiple sexual offences against children under 16 involving breach of trust, two victims, repeated offending, and unprotected intercourse, individual sentences of 12 months imprisonment (against a maximum of 14 years) are manifestly inadequate; sentences of not less than 2 years per offence of sexual intercourse are appropriate. Offences against different complainants should generally be wholly consecutive. The grooming offence under s 474.27(1) Criminal Code (Cth) warrants not less than 18 months imprisonment even where a sexual relationship has already been established.
