A trial judge delivering oral reasons may correct a calculation error before formal entry of judgment without needing to satisfy the 'exceptional circumstances' test applicable to recall of entered judgments. Disclosure of an offer of compromise after delivery of reasons but before entry of judgment does not of itself preclude reconsideration, but an inference that the offer influenced the reconsideration will not be drawn incautiously from ambiguous or imprecise remarks. Residual earning capacity must be assessed practically by reference to the individual's characteristics in the labour market, not merely by identifying theoretically available occupations.
