When objective evidence demonstrates multiple flaws in a complainant's account, a trial judge must consider the cumulative force of those inconsistencies, not merely dismiss each individually as peripheral. Where multiple demonstrated errors all point in the same direction (here, unreliability as to timing), their combined effect may render a conviction unsafe even where the complainant was otherwise compelling. A charge under s 50 of the Criminal Law Consolidation Act 1935 (SA) for persistent sexual exploitation of a child may include acts that are capable of being fully particularised as separate offences.
