The parity principle does not require that a co-offender with greater culpability receive a more severe sentence than a co-offender with a prior criminal history; the same sentence may be appropriate where the different circumstances of each co-offender balance out. General deterrence in cases of planned group violence in public places requires a term of imprisonment even for youthful offenders without prior convictions.
