A sentence of five years' imprisonment for armed robbery by a serial offender with 16 prior armed robbery convictions, an established modus operandi involving large knives, and limited rehabilitation prospects was manifestly inadequate. The commission of armed robbery to support a drug habit does not materially reduce moral culpability. The principle of totality is only relevant when sentencing for multiple offences or where the offender is already serving a sentence, though a misplaced reference to totality does not of itself demonstrate sentencing error.
