The Court of Appeal refused leave to appeal against a sentence of two years and three months' imprisonment (with a 15-month non-parole period) for a prison officer who smuggled heroin into a correctional facility, holding the sentence was not even arguably excessive. The Court confirmed that a sentencing judge is entitled to discount the mitigating value of prior good character where that good character was the very thing that placed the offender in a position of trust enabling the offence.
