A sentencing judge is entitled to infer that large quantities of concealed cash are proceeds of drug trafficking where the offender's alternative explanation for the source of the funds has been rejected, having regard to the manner of concealment, packaging consistent with drug proceeds, forensic accounting evidence of unexplained income, and the offender's plea to trafficking. For wholesale trafficking in methylamphetamine with unexplained income of approximately $1.6 million over a 10-month period, a sentence of 10 years imprisonment (attracting a serious violent offence declaration) is within the appropriate range of 10 to 12 years identified in R v Feakes.
