Where an offender pleads guilty to multiple offences at different times, the sentencing judge must apply the appropriate discount for the plea of guilty to each indicative sentence separately, reflecting the different utilitarian value of each plea. Averaging or combining discounts across offences with pleas at different times is an error requiring re-exercise of the sentencing discretion. However, such error will not necessarily result in a lesser sentence where the offences attracting the higher discount are also the more serious offences.
