The ad hoc expert voice identification principles established in Butera, Leung and Wong, Irani and Madigan remain good law in NSW and were not doubted by the High Court in Honeysett v The Queen. The High Court's observation in Honeysett at [48] did not cast doubt on those principles; it merely noted the question did not arise for determination. A ground of appeal asserting wrongful admission of evidence cannot succeed where the specific objection was not raised at trial and the trial judge made no determination on the point.
