The parity principle does not require a sentencing judge to reduce a sentence to match a co-offender's sentence where the co-offender's sentence is itself inappropriately low. A parity complaint has no practical effect where the sentence complained of is ordered to be served wholly concurrently with a sentence for a more serious offence about which there is no parity issue.
