A discount for assistance to authorities approaching fifty per cent is not warranted where the offender is not a 'true informer' but rather identified his own role in the offending and assisted in the resolution of a co-offender's case. In sentencing for murder committed during aggravated burglary of an elderly victim's home, specific deterrence remains a relevant sentencing purpose notwithstanding the offender's cooperation, particularly where the offender has prior convictions for similar offending.
