The protracted nature of a sexual assault lasting over an hour, with ongoing, varied and persistent brutality, tells against drawing an inference that youthful lack of impulse control was a significant contributing cause of the offending. An argument that an offender's youth and disadvantaged background reduced moral culpability cannot be raised for the first time on appeal absent compelling material available on the plea that was not used or understood. While individual indicative sentences may each be within range, implicit accumulation in formulating an aggregate sentence may still produce a manifestly excessive result.
