Where co-offenders play substantially the same role in offending and their personal circumstances and antecedents are virtually indistinguishable, a significant sentencing differential (here, two years on a common charge) will not be reasonably open. The sentencing judge must articulate justification for any differential in the sentencing remarks, or at minimum the justification must be locatable in the judge's findings on pertinent matters.
