A driver who observes an adult pedestrian alight from a vehicle onto the nature strip is not thereby required to reduce speed to a point where the driver could stop in any conceivable circumstances. Such a finding would impose strict liability on drivers and constitutes impermissible hindsight reasoning. The mere sight of an adult pedestrian near the roadway, without additional factors suggesting the pedestrian may act carelessly, does not trigger a heightened duty to slow down. However, a driver must keep a proper lookout when passing a stationary vehicle from behind which a pedestrian may emerge.
