A consequence of a parole eligibility date that requires an offender to serve more than 50 per cent of the overall sentence in actual custody is not inherently manifestly excessive or crushing; such a consequence may properly flow from engaging in serious criminal offending whilst on parole. Wholesale drug trafficking commenced shortly after release on parole for a serious offence of violence warrants a sentence in the order of seven to eight years imprisonment, subject to reduction for cumulative effect and mitigating factors.
