The director‑general must give each authorised person (other than a police officer) an identity card that states the person’s name and appointment as an authorised person, and shows—

a recent photograph of the person; and

the date of issue of the card; and

the date of expiry of the card; and

anything else prescribed by regulation.

A person commits an offence if the person—

stops being an authorised person (other than a police officer); and

does not return the person’s identity card to the director‑general as soon as practicable (but within 7 days) after the day the person stops being an authorised person.

Subsection (2) does not apply to a person if the person’s identity card is—

lost or stolen; or

destroyed by someone else.

The defendant has an evidential burden in relation to the matters mentioned in s (3) (see Criminal Code, s 58).

An offence against this section is a strict liability offence.
