8 Offence—disposal of prohibited weapons and articles by unauthorised holders
A person commits an offence if—
the person has possession of a prohibited weapon or prohibited article; and
the person is not, or is no longer, authorised by a permit or otherwise under this Act to possess the weapon or article; and
within 7 days after the day the person comes into possession of, or is no longer authorised to possess, the weapon or article, the person fails—
to surrender the weapon or article to a police officer; or
to dispose of the weapon or article to someone who is authorised by a permit to possess it.
Maximum penalty: 50 penalty units, imprisonment for 6 months or both.
A person does not contravene any other provision of this Act because the person—
disposed of or surrendered a prohibited weapon or prohibited article in accordance with this section; or
accepted a prohibited weapon or prohibited article under this section.
