53 Sheriff’s assistants
The sheriff may appoint public servants to assist in the exercise of the sheriff’s functions.
Note 1 For the making of appointments (including acting appointments), see Legislation Act, pt 19.3.
Note 2 In particular, a person may be appointed for a particular provision of a law (see Legislation Act, s 7 (3)) and an appointment may be made by naming a person or nominating the occupant of a position (see s 207).
A person appointed under subsection (1) (a sheriff’s assistant)—
may exercise any function given to the sheriff, subject to this Act and any directions of the sheriff; and
has the rights, privileges, immunities and liabilities of the sheriff.
Anything done by a sheriff’s assistant is taken to have been done by the sheriff.
