An application for financial assistance may be made to the Attorney‑General in respect of the subject of a questioning warrant’s appearance before a prescribed authority for questioning under the warrant.

An application under subsection (1) may be made by, or on behalf of, the subject.

The Attorney‑General may authorise the Commonwealth to provide the subject with financial assistance, determined by the Attorney‑General, in respect of the subject’s appearance before a prescribed authority for questioning under the warrant.

Financial assistance may be given subject to such conditions (if any) as the Attorney‑General determines.

The Attorney‑General may, in writing, determine guidelines that are to be applied in authorising the provision of assistance under this section.

Guidelines under subsection (5) are not legislative instruments.

This section does not apply in relation to:

any complaint the subject makes that is of the kind mentioned in paragraph 34DC(1)(i); or

any information the subject gives that is of a kind mentioned in paragraph 34DC(1)(j); or

any remedy the subject seeks that is of the kind mentioned in paragraph 34DC(1)(k).
