563 Authorisation of human biosecurity officers
The Director of Human Biosecurity may, in writing, authorise a person to be a human biosecurity officer under this Act if:
the person is:
an officer or employee of the Health Department; or
an officer or employee of the Australian Centre for Disease Control; or
an officer or employee of the State or Territory body responsible for the administration of health services in a State or Territory; or
a member of the Australian Defence Force; and
the Director of Human Biosecurity is satisfied that the person has appropriate clinical expertise.
The Director of Human Biosecurity must not authorise an officer or employee referred to in subparagraph (1)(a)(ii) unless an arrangement is in force under section 564 in relation to the officer or employee.
An authorisation may specify the period during which it has effect.
The Director of Human Biosecurity may, in writing, vary or revoke an authorisation at any time.
The Director of Human Biosecurity must determine, in writing, training and qualification requirements for human biosecurity officers.
A determination made under subsection (5) is not a legislative instrument.
