48 Acting appointments
The Minister may appoint a person to act as Chairperson:
during a vacancy in the office of Chairperson, whether or not an appointment has previously been made to the office; or
during any period, or during all periods, when the Chairperson is absent from duty or from Australia, or is for any other reason unable to perform the functions of the office.
For rules that apply to acting appointments, see section 33A of the Acts Interpretation Act 1901.
The Minister may appoint a person other than the Chairperson to act as a member:
during a vacancy in the office of that member, whether or not an appointment has previously been made to the office; or
during any period, or during all periods, when that member is absent from Australia or is, for any reason, unable to perform the duties of the office.
