311 Conduct of inquiry

(1)

A commission of inquiry must inquire diligently into the subject matter of the inquiry and report to the Minister on the results of the inquiry.

(2)

A commission of inquiry may gather information in any way it considers appropriate and is not bound by the rules of evidence.

(3)

Proceedings of a commission of inquiry are to be held in a place open to the public unless the commission considers it desirable, in the public interest, to hold the proceedings in private.

(4)

If a commission of inquiry is appointed to inquire into the affairs of a particular council or local government subsidiary, it must allow the council or local government subsidiary a reasonable opportunity to make submissions on the subject matter of the inquiry.
