Community Services Act 2007

A chief executive of a department (an appointing chief executive) may appoint any of the following persons as authorised officers—

a public service employee or another employee of the department;

for the purpose of investigating a particular matter—another person.

However, an appointing chief executive may appoint a person as an authorised officer only if—

the chief executive is satisfied the person is appropriately qualified for appointment; and

the person has the competencies, if any, prescribed under a regulation as relevant to the person’s appointment.

A person may be appointed generally or for stated provisions of this Act or another Act.
