Audit of electronically assisted voting for an election
121C Audit of electronically assisted voting for an election
The commission must appoint an independent person to audit the information technology used under the procedures for electronically assisted voting made under section 121B.
The audit must be conducted—
at least 7 days before the cut-off day for the nomination of candidates; and
within 60 days after the polling day for the election.
However, an audit does not need to be conducted in relation to a by-election unless the commissioner considers that there has been a significant change in the information technology used under the procedures for electronically assisted voting since the last audit was conducted.
A person appointed under subsection (1) must be an individual who is not, and has not ever been, a member of a political party.
The person appointed to conduct the audit may make recommendations to the commission to reduce or eliminate risks that could affect the security, accuracy or secrecy of electronically assisted voting.
A regulation may prescribe requirements about the conduct of an audit under this section.
