Justices Act 1886

If a complaint is made before a justice—

that a person is suspected of having committed an indictable offence within the justice’s jurisdiction; or

that a person charged with committing an indictable offence elsewhere within the State is suspected of being within the justice’s jurisdiction; or

that a person charged with committing an indictable offence on the high seas, or elsewhere outside the State, of which notice may be taken by the courts of the State, is suspected of being within the justice’s jurisdiction;

the justice may issue a warrant—

to apprehend the person; and

to have the person brought before justices to answer the complaint and to be further dealt with according to law.
