286 Facilities for temporary detention of stray livestock
The
Chief Veterinary Officer may enter into an agreement with the owner or occupier of land to establish a facility for the temporary detention of stray livestock that poses, or may pose, a biosecurity risk.
Any livestock taken to a facility established under this section may be detained and managed in accordance with the regulations.
A person who is detaining livestock under this section must—
take steps to identify or make contact with the owner of the livestock as required by the regulations; and
if the livestock poses a biosecurity risk, comply with any requirements of this Act that apply in the circumstances; and
comply with any terms, conditions or requirements set out in an agreement under subsection (1).
A person who has established a facility under this section may, in circumstances prescribed by the regulations, sell or destroy livestock detained at the facility and recover any costs in accordance with a scheme prescribed by the regulations.
