The approved authority for a registered system of non-government schools may notify the Registration Board, in writing, that the system no longer wishes to be registered.

As soon as reasonably practicable after receiving a notice under subsection (1), the Registration Board is to cancel the registration of the system.

On cancelling the registration of a system of non-government schools, the Registration Board is to notify the approved authority for the system, in writing, and each of the governing bodies of the schools which are members of the system, in writing, of – the cancellation; and the date the cancellation takes effect; and the reasons for the cancellation.

If the registration of a system of non-government schools is cancelled, the schools which were members of the system immediately before the cancellation – continue to be registered non-government schools for the period of 12 months commencing on the day of the cancellation; and except as otherwise provided by this Act, are to be treated during that period as if they were registered under Division 3 as individual non-government schools.

Nothing in this section prevents – a non-government school, which was a member of a system of non-government schools the registration of which has been cancelled under this section, from applying, under section 168 as a transitioning non-government school, for registration as an individual non-government school and being granted that registration under section 170; or the registration of such a school from being suspended or cancelled under section 178 or 179 – during the 12-month period referred to in subsection (4).

An application under subsection (5)(a) for registration as an individual non-government school must be made not later than 6 months before the end of the 12-month period referred to in subsection (4).
