6 Functions of Authority

The functions of the Authority are as follows:to market Tasmania as a desirable tourist destination; to facilitate the sustainable growth of the Tasmanian tourism industry; to support the Tasmanian tourism industry to achieve the best practice delivery of products and services; to undertake, support and interpret research relevant to tourism in Tasmania; to undertake strategic planning for the development and growth of a sustainable tourism industry in Tasmania; to provide advice and support to the Minister in relation to the Tasmanian tourism industry; to establish and maintain a cooperative relationship between the Authority, Government departments, statutory authorities, local government and the tourism industry in Tasmania; to perform other functions imposed on the Authority by this or any other Act.

In performing its functions and exercising its powers, the Authority must have regard to – the Agreement for the Sustainable Development of Tasmania's Tourism Industry dated 28 February 1996 between the Government and the Tourism Council of Australia (Tasmania Branch) while that agreement is in force; and any other agreement between the Government and the Tourism Council Tasmania Limited while that other agreement is in force.
