Tourism Tasmania Act 1996

The Authority has power to do – all things necessary or convenient to be done in connection with the performance of its functions; and all other things that it is authorised to do by this or any other Act.

Without limiting subsection (1), the Authority has power to – undertake destinational and product marketing; and carry out investigations and research into tourism in Tasmania and elsewhere; and act as a travel agent; and establish and maintain travel centres to assist travellers; and acquire, hold, dispose of and otherwise deal with property; and enter into contracts including a contract with another person for the performance of any of its functions or powers jointly with that other person; and set charges, terms and conditions relating to work done, or services, goods or information supplied, by it; and appoint agents, attorneys and consultants and act as an agent, attorney or consultant; and form, and participate in the formation of, companies and participate in partnerships, trusts, joint ventures and other arrangements for the sharing of profits; and carry on any business which may conveniently be carried on in conjunction with the performance of its functions; and do all other things necessary or convenient to be done in connection with the exercise of its powers.

The Authority must not exercise its power to form, or participate in the formation of, a company or to participate in a partnership, trust, joint venture or other arrangement for the sharing of profits unless the Minister and Treasurer have approved, in writing, the exercise of that power.

The Authority may use and operate under – one or more of the following trading names:"Tourism Tasmania";"Tasmania's Temptations Holidays";"Tasmania Direct"; and one or more other trading names approved by the Minister.
