128 Driving vehicle to and from place of registration &c.

A vehicle is exempt from the requirement to be registered if the vehicle – is proceeding (under its own power or under tow) for the purpose of registration by the most direct or convenient route to a place at which vehicles are registered, a vehicle inspection station, a weighbridge or another place directly associated with the registration process; or is proceeding (under its own power or under tow) from any such place by the most direct or convenient route to – another such place; or a place where the vehicle could be conveniently garaged or kept; or a convenient place of repair after failing to pass inspection.

In proceedings for an offence against the Act or these regulations, the onus of proving that the defendant had the benefit of an exemption under this regulation at the time of the alleged offence lies on the defendant.
