Classes of driver licences
6 Classes of driver licences
The classes of driver licences are established as follows:motor cycle licence (R); car licence (C); light rigid vehicle licence (LR); medium rigid vehicle licence (MR); heavy rigid vehicle licence (HR); heavy combination vehicle licence (HC); multi-combination vehicle licence (MC).
For the purposes of the Act, a class of driver licence may be referred to by reference to the code shown in parenthesis in subregulation (1) after the relevant class.
A hierarchy of licence classes is established consisting of the following licence classes as listed in ascending order:a car licence or its equivalent under a corresponding law; a light rigid vehicle licence or its equivalent under a corresponding law; a medium rigid vehicle licence or its equivalent under a corresponding law; a heavy rigid vehicle licence or its equivalent under a corresponding law; a heavy combination vehicle licence or its equivalent under a corresponding law; a multi-combination vehicle licence or its equivalent under a corresponding law.
For the avoidance of doubt, a motor cycle licence is not within the hierarchy of licence classes.
