77 Eligibility for registration of motor vehicles or trailers

A vehicle is eligible for registration if – the vehicle is roadworthy and complies with the relevant vehicle standards; and in the case of a vehicle that has been modified, a modification plate has been issued in relation to each modification made to the vehicle; and the garage address of the vehicle is, or is to be, in Tasmania; and there is no offensive advertising notice in relation to the vehicle; and a person who is eligible to be the registered operator of the vehicle has accepted or is willing to accept responsibility for the vehicle.

A vehicle that would be eligible for registration under subregulation (1) but for non-compliance with a relevant vehicle standard may be eligible for registration that is subject to conditions, if the Registrar is satisfied that the non-compliance can be adequately dealt with by registering the vehicle on appropriate conditions.
