33 Functions of the Department
The principal function of the Department in relation to the transport system, including the delivery of integrated and connected transport services, is to—
S. 33(1)(a) substituted by No. 49/2019 s. 5(1).
assist the Minister in relation to the performance of the Minister's functions and the exercise of the Minister's powers; and
do anything that is necessary or convenient to be done for or in connection with, or incidental to, the achievement of its objects.
Without limiting the generality of subsection (1), the functions of the Department include—
to support the Secretary in performing any functions or exercising any powers under this Act and other transport legislation in relation to the transport system and any related matters; and
if the Secretary requests support from the Department in relation to any enforcement functions conferred on the Secretary, to provide that support; and

to assist the Head, Transport for Victoria in relation to the performance of its functions and exercise of its powers, if made available to the Head, Transport for Victoria by the Secretary under section 33A(1)(b); and
S. 33(2)(c) inserted by No. 49/2019 s. 5(3).
any other functions conferred on the Department by or under this Act or other transport legislation in relation to the transport system.
