107 Bailiffs, appointment of
The sheriff may appoint one or more fit and proper natural persons as bailiffs.
Subject to subsection (1) the sheriff may appoint as a bailiff —
a public servant, with the consent of his or her employing authority under the Public Sector Management Act 1994;
a natural person who is employed by a local government, regional local government or regional subsidiary, with the consent of his or her employer;
a police office‑holder, with the consent of the Commissioner of Police;
a natural person with whom the sheriff has entered into a contract for services;
a natural person who is employed by a person with whom the sheriff has entered into a contract for services.
A bailiff’s appointment may be suspended or terminated for misconduct in the performance of his or her functions or for any other good reason by the sheriff.
Any act by the sheriff under this section must be in writing.
