A head sentence of two years imprisonment for assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed and in company is outside the sentencing range where the offender's purpose in attending the complainant's residence was to prevent trouble, the arming was for protective rather than aggressive purposes, the violence was provoked, and the offender was a young person with no prior criminal history. In such circumstances, six months imprisonment suspended after three months is appropriate. The distinction between arming for protective versus aggressive purposes is a significant amelioration in criminality.
