Pack rape by multiple offenders is a seriously aggravating feature that lifts the offending to a level at least as serious as cases involving single offenders who inflict greater gratuitous violence. The appropriate sentencing range for violent rape after a guilty plea is 10 to 14 years imprisonment. The parity principle does not apply to compare an applicant's sentence for offences against one complainant with a co-offender's global sentence that reflects the totality of offending against multiple complainants. A discount of approximately 25 per cent for s 13A cooperation is within the appropriate range where the cooperation, while valuable, did not expose the applicant to particular risk.
