A courtroom disturbance of a relatively limited nature following acquittal verdicts — involving a spectator crying, making noise, and calling the accused a name — does not require discharge of the jury where the trial judge gives clear directions to disregard the incident. The judge is not required to make enquiries of individual jurors where the incident occurred in open court and the judge was able to assess its nature directly. Defence counsel's forensic decision not to seek discharge will be respected on appeal.
