An effective head sentence of five and a half years imprisonment (four years for grievous bodily harm cumulative with 18 months for assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed) with parole eligibility at one third is within range for sustained violent offending involving weapons, committed while on bail, by an offender with a significant history of violent offences and no remorse. The totality principle does not require reduction of cumulative sentences in every case; early parole eligibility may constitute the allowance for totality.
