The parity principle does not require an appellate court to reduce an otherwise appropriate sentence to match manifestly inadequate sentences imposed on co-offenders, where the reduction would produce a sentence disproportionate to the objective and subjective criminality involved. The disparity arising from a co-sentencing judge's unprincipled approach to parity does not of itself justify intervention if the result would be an erroneously lenient sentence.
